Treasurer & Secretary

Join the NA3RsC leadership team as Treasurer or Secretary.

The North American 3Rs Collaborative is recruiting for talented individuals to join our leadership team as Treasurer or Secretary. We are looking for professionals who are dedicated to the 3Rs, committed to NA3RsC, and willing to lead by example.

The Treasurer and Secretary are members of a team of 5 Officers (i.e., President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) and 5 to 9 additional Directors.  The Treasurer and Secretary positions are elected by the current board members.

Applicants should have:

  • A commitment to the mission & strategic goals of NA3RsC
  • A commitment to the development of all 3Rs for animal research
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment & give a strong strategic perspective

Secretary Responsibilities

  • Keep meeting minutes for the leadership team & board of the directors.
  • Ensure the by-laws are kept up to date as changes are made
  • Ensure that notices are given in accordance with provisions of the bylaws
  • Ensure all documents are provided to appropriate agencies to maintain 501c3 designation
  • Responsible for the appropriate handling of all legal documents (articles, bylaws, IRS letters, policies, etc) and familiarity with those files
  • Advises staff and leadership on the creation of new applicable policies
  • All responsibilities of leadership team and board member (see below)

Treasurer Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance of financial records via QuickBooks and excel which includes assigning transactions to categories & attaching appropriate memos/receipts, preparing reports
  • Maintain the banking account, issue checks/reimbursements, and keep reocrds
  • Accountable for filing taxes for NA3RsC
  • Work with the Finance committee and staff to provide budget updates at board meetings and create the annual budget for approval
  • Ensure development and compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • Provide documents and guidance in the event of an audit
  • Ensure sound management and maximization of cash and investments
  • All responsibilities of leadership team and board member (see below)

Leadership Team Responsibilities

  • 4-year commitment
  • Attend and actively contribute to leadership meetings (held 6 times a year prior to the board of directors
  • Provides NA3RsC with additional leadership & direction with an ability to see the bigger picture
  • Involved in at least one NA3RsC initiatives
  • All the responsibilities of a board member (see below)

Board of Director Responsibilities

  • Financial and legal oversight/responsibility of the organization.
  • Attend and actively contribute to board meetings (held virtually approximately every 6 weeks) and any additional special meetings
  • Advise on the organization’s strategy, mission, goals, and major spending decisions
  • Actively contribute to the organization’s mission and goals such as being directly involved in current initiatives
  • Assist in fundraising/resource gathering efforts such as connecting staff to personal contacts or directly advocating for financial institutional support of NA3RsC
  • Advocate for NA3RsC within the scientific community & general public

  • Sector/Specialty – We are looking to diversify & broaden our Board of Directors in terms of their expertise/roles
